Could the digital sommelier replace its human counterpart?

HOTEL DU VIN has become the newest adopter of iPad wine lists. Powered by SmartCellar software, the interactive menus enable diners to search more speedily through a wine list and sommeliers to demonstrate more about a wine’s origins to customers. Despite some restaurant owners claiming that the digital “tablets” are set to diminish the need for wine waiting staff, Master Sommelier Ronan Sayburn, director of wine and spirits at Hotel du Vin, has welcomed their introduction from the US.
